Every five years Riga hosts the Song and Dance Festival. This year we made the capital a true centre of joy and unity. We collaborated with various artists to create multiple creative audiovisual works. That included a vibrant and cohesive design for the urban environment, a TV ad, a photo spot, booklets, cards, water filling stations, a musical poster pole, as well as a magnificent replica of the capital's three roosters and a singing river, that greatly led the region of Riga in the parade. Riga became a caring hostess, ensuring that not only the participants but also all attendees felt a sense of belonging to the city and its traditions during this festive week.

Year
2023, Summer

Although Riga has been the host city since 1873, it had usually taken a backseat position, playing quite a neutral role during this celebration. This year, we decided to change that by transforming Riga into a warm and welcoming hostess.

How? Firstly, by adorning the city with the most cheerful colour - yellow. And secondly, by putting our own dancers in the spotlight. Not only did we incorporate it into outdoor designs but also took it above and beyond.

It all started with yellow.

The idea behind this TV ad was to highlight the sense of belonging and inclusivity that Riga and The Song and Dance Festival offered to all of us. Come as you are. We all belong here.

What else?

We created an interactive musical poster pole that became a delightful way to kickstart the celebrations. By pressing the button, the heartwarming melody of "Riga Dimd" would fill the air.

To guide our guests, we created around 40,000 tour guide prints, ensuring everyone felt at home during their week-long stay. Additionally, we designed a photo spot, a vibrant place for photos and performances as well as various water filling stations that were displaced all over the city.

Wondering about those roosters on top? They are real replicas of Riga's iconic roosters that traditionally sit atop the city's main churches. These three guys also led the region of Riga in the parade, accompanied by a line from the song "Riga dimd."
